Solar and wind energy costs are plummeting, but intermittency and land use constrain these resources. We are focused on long duration energy storage and improved grid transmission to ease adoption, balance the grid and accelerate the adoption of these existing renewables. We also support geothermal and geologic hydrogen to advance these early (but high potential) sources of 24/7 low cost clean energy.

Agriculture is the primary driver of most planetary boundary transgressions and a leading cause of both climate change and chemical toxicity. We support systemic changes (regenerative agriculture) as well as 'drop-in' interventions to reduce agriculture's environmental footprint.

"Toxicity" – effects on human and ecosystem health of widespread man-made chemicals – is today's most neglected issue. Endocrine-disrupting plastics and pesticides contribute to obesity, neurodevelopmental disorders, fertility challenges and unprecedented ecosystem collapse. We are fighting toxicity primarily in agriculture (pesticides) and industry (plastic petrochemicals).

We must decarbonize urgently, but we will also need massive amounts of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) to maintain a livable climate. By the time net zero is achieved, we expect there will be ~2 trillion tons of 'excess' CO2 in the atmosphere that will need to be captured and stored away safely. The odds of such a 'clean up' increase significantly if we support scalable CDR that can cost less than $100/tCO2.

A tipping point is a threshold that, when crossed, leads to large and often irreversible changes in the climate system. Of the 16 known tipping points, 4 are likely already tipping or will begin to tip in the coming 20-30 years: the Greenland ice sheet collapse, West Antarctic ice sheet collapse, tropical coral reef die off, and boreal permafrost abrupt thaw. We fund work to understand the ramifications of tipping points, as well as early research on interventions the world might need in the future to buy more time for climate stabilization.

Moving the needle on global climate targets requires bridging the gap between cutting-edge science and real-world policy. We fund top-tier academic hubs and NGO partners to support global advocacy. Together with these long-standing partners, we support global advocacy.
